About Us

The Family Tradition

Optometry has been in the family since the NHS began in 1948, when John O'Connor Davies's father turned from pharmacy to ophthalmic optics and subsequently wrote the first university text book on drugs and the eye. Today, John's own son, Andrew, is continuing tradition. He is already a qualified ophthalmic optician and just about to embark on a career as an ophthalmologist.

Your Contact Lens Specialist

Since his training days at City University and Moorfields eye hospital, Mr O'Connor Davies has always had a keen interest in contact lenses, holding the Diploma in Contact Lens Practice, ensuring that the highest level of care is provided. He has continued to keep up with the latest materials and designs, investing in such state of the art technology as the corneal topographer. This gives a detailed computerised image of the front surface of your eye and helps fit comfortable lenses even if you have struggled to wear them before.

At the Thornhill Road, Cardiff practice, contact lens design and manufacture are chosen to suit your individual needs. You can choose from a variety of contact lenses including daily disposables, extended wear for overnight use and innovative hybrid lenses that provide the clarity of a hard lens with the comfort of a soft lens. Throw away lenses are the most popular but it is possible to fit a lens with a life of up to 2 years.

Latest in Spectacle Lens Technology

As the technology for contact lenses has advanced, so has that of spectacle lenses, with computer designs enabling the weight of your spectacles to be kept to a minimum. In addition, coated lenses improve the cosmetic appearance of glasses as well as allowing more light to reach your eyes. This aids with your night vision and is particularly useful in hobbies and occupations that are visually demanding. Advanced coatings prevent distracting reflections and offer high levels of scratch resistance, some with two year, no quibble, non-scratch guarantees. Here, at your local Cardiff opticians, we have a wide range of frames and lenses available so you are welcome to drop in to discuss your requirements with one of our dispensing opticians.
